{"id":1680,"date":"2024-07-04T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ourpoems.org\/?p=1680"},"modified":"2024-10-02T23:26:17","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T23:26:17","slug":"out-of-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ourpoems.org\/en\/out-of-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the heat of the campfire&#8217;s glow,<br>Amidst the logs, where embers grow,<br>A salamander, wiggly and slight,<br>Was darting in the scorching light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Was hollow log, in which he lay,<br>A burning home now turning gray?<br>To save his life, I pulled him free,<br>From the fiery trap, his destiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why did he not rush to retreat<br>From the inferno of fire&#8217;s heat?<br>A creature cold, with skin so damp,<br>In scorching flames was making camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Could he be a dragon fledgling, small,<br>Seeking flames, heeding fire&#8217;s call,<br>Was this the fire he imbibes,<br>To breathe it later from the skies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did I just save the little creature,<br>Or had I blocked a dragon&#8217;s future?<br><br>We&#8217;ll never know what it could have been:<br>Small critter&#8217;s demise, or a dragon&#8217;s dream.<br>Would I have done it over again?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Paul Pinkhasik,&nbsp; July 4, 2024<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the heat of the campfire&#8217;s glow,Amidst the logs, where embers grow,A salamander, wiggly and slight,Was darting in the scorching light.
